Civil engineering student. Writer on psychology and metaphysics.

Eric Gana

I build things, and I write about what they mean. Those have never felt like separate interests to me — one asks whether a structure will stand, the other asks what it is we are standing on. I’m a civil engineering student at Tarrant County College, transferring to the University of Texas at Arlington to finish my degree.

Engineering

My interest sits in two places: the project management of large infrastructure construction, and precision structural design.

The second is what I enjoy most. A structural check is a question with an actual answer — the footing either carries the load or it doesn’t, and the calculation will tell you which. There is a particular satisfaction in work where being approximately right is not good enough.

The first is the harder problem. Large infrastructure fails far more often through coordination than through calculation, and I want to understand that side properly rather than treat it as someone else’s job.

Writing

I write about the philosophical and psychological questions that nag at most people and get answered by almost no one: the nature of logic, whether there is such a thing as absolute truth, and what consciousness actually is.

The one I keep returning to is how aware we really are. Not whether we are conscious, but how much of our own thinking we can actually observe while it’s happening — and how much we only reconstruct afterwards and call a reason.

I’m not trying to settle these questions. I write to think them through carefully, in public. What I want is for a reader to feel connected to the argument and, by the end of it, able to look at their own mind from the outside — as a third person would.

Structural AI at Project Neutron

I write benchmark problems and verified reference solutions used to train and evaluate AI models for structural design and construction. The work means reading a drawing, extracting the design basis, and checking model output against the code — a model is only as good as what you measure it against.

What I’m looking for

I’m looking for internships and research assistance in structural design or construction management, and I’m open to roles alongside my studies.

If you’ve read something here and disagreed with it, I would rather hear that than agreement. Email me.
